Articles describe Zhaga activities and progress

Posted on Tuesday February 19 2013, by Tim Whitaker

A number of articles about Zhaga have been published recently in trade magazines covering the LED lighting industry.

Links to these articles or downloads can be found on the Zhaga website. Please visit our new “Zhaga in the Media” page.

  • The Jan/Feb 2013 issue of LED Professional Review contains an interview with Menno Treffers, General Secretary of the Zhaga Consortium, entitled “Zhaga - A Successful Strategy for Luminaire Manufacturers.” In the article, Treffers explains what successful luminaire manufacturers have to consider for their LED lighting strategies. Achieving the lowest bill-of-material costs for a single luminaire is not sufficient to make a profitable portfolio in LED lighting. R&D costs, stock level costs and risk factors have to be taken into account as well.
  • Menno Treffers also wrote an opinion piece for the February 2013 issue of LEDs Magazine entitled “Zhaga helps SSL luminaire makers reduce costs and supply-chain risks.” The piece explains how interchangeable LED light engines will allow companies to support broader LED-lighting portfolios with more features.

  • The same issue of LEDs Magazine also features an article on solid-state lighting modules. This includes both proprietary modular products and ones built to the new Zhaga standards that allow for the interchange of LED light engines, drivers and other components from multiple vendors.
  • The French-language website LED-fr.net also carried an interview with Menno Treffers, the General Secretary of Zhaga.
