Coming soon: Publication of Zhaga Book 2 specification

Posted on Wednesday December 19 2012, by Tim Whitaker

The Zhaga Consortium is planning to publish its Book 2 interface specification in January 2013. This will provide access to the full specification for the entire lighting industry, not just Zhaga members, allowing companies to design their products to be interchangeable with other Zhaga-compliant products.

Book 2 describes the specifications for a socketable LED light engine with a 65-mm-diameter base and integrated electronic control gear (ECG, commonly termed the driver).

Zhaga’s policy is to publish a specification once certification is available for that specification, and once the first products with the Zhaga logo have been sold. Non-members are able to use the specifications to design products, but only products that have been through the full Zhaga test and certification procedure are entitled to use the Zhaga logo.

In October 2012, Zhaga published Book 3, which defines the interfaces between a non-socketable LED light engine with separate ECG that has a round light-emitting surface measuring between 9 mm and 23 mm in diameter.

Zhaga has also published Book 1, which includes common definitions and generic information that applies to all the different interface specifications.
