Zhaga publishes Book 10 specification on LED modules for spotlighting

The Zhaga Consortium has published Book 10, a new specification that defines a family of circular LED modules that have a small circular light-emitting surface (LES). The Book 10 specification can be downloaded from the Zhaga public website.

Book 10 contains simplified and harmonized specifications for the LED modules that were previously described in two existing Zhaga specifications. These are Book 3, which covers 50-mm-diameter LED modules, and Book 11 covering 35-mm-diameter LED modules. Book 10 supersedes these older specifications, which will be phased out.

Book 10 LED modules can be used with luminaire optics such as lenses and reflectors, and are typically used in spotlighting applications.

Book 10 is closely related to Zhaga’s specification covering chip-on-board (COB) LED arrays and holders; this specification is designated Book 12. Spotlight LED modules can either be standalone products, or they can be constructed by combining a COB LED array with a suitable array holder of the appropriate size (either 35-mm or 50-mm diameter).

Book 10 is also related to Book 17, which defines LED light engines (LLEs) that have an integrated driver. Book 17 LLEs have a larger housing than Book 10 LED modules, so that they can incorporate the driver. However, some characteristics are shared; the Book 17 LLEs have the same screw-hole positions as the 50-mm-diameter Book 10 modules, and the same categories are used for the diameter of the light-emitting surface (LES).
