Zhaga publishes Edition 1.4 of Book 7 for linear and square LED modules

Zhaga has published Edition 1.4 of Book 7, which can be downloaded from the Zhaga website.

Already widely adopted by the lighting industry, the Book 7 specification defines a family of linear and square LED modules that typically could be used for indoor lighting applications.

There are a number of important changes in Edition 1.4:

  • LED modules only: The specification has been restructured so that it now defines only LED modules. Previous Editions of Book 7 defined complete LED light engines. Book 7 LED modules operate with a separate LED driver, but these components are now defined in a separate specification (Book 13).
  • MD-SIG: In order to deal with the electrical interface between the module and driver, Book 7 Edition 1.4 references the MD-SIG specifications.
  • New form-factor: A new module category – L14W2 – has been added. This has maximum dimensions of 140 mm x 24 mm.

There are now ten LED module categories in Book 7. The maximum dimensions of the LED modules also indicate the size of the keep-out area in the luminaire.

The only restriction on the light-emitting surface (LES) of the LED modules is that all light should be emitted above the upper surface of the module. This provides maximum design freedom with respect to the placement of LEDs on the module.
