Plans unveiled for Zhaga Books 14, 15 and 16

Posted on Thursday February 18 2016, by Tim Whitaker

Zhaga has started to write three new specifications – Books 14, 15 and 16 – covering different types of LED modules and integrated LED light engines.

Zhaga is an open, global, lighting-industry consortium that is standardizing LED light engines and associated components, including LED modules and LED drivers. This helps to simplify LED luminaire design and manufacturing, and accelerate the adoption of LED lighting.

Book 14 – Socketable flat system

Book 14 defines specifications for linear, socketable (tool-less replaceable) light engines and modules with a cap-holder fit system. Book 14 will include versions with integrated drivers and versions with separate drivers. Three length designations (lengths of approximately 1470 mm, 1170 mm and 565 mm) are likely to be included. Book 15 – Modules for lens plates

Book 15 defines a family of rectangular LED modules that are designed for use with arrays of lenses. Typically, such products will be used for outdoor lighting applications. The modules in Book 15 will have three form-factors, based around 8x2, 4x2 and 2x2 arrays of LEDs. More on Book 15

Book 16 – Planar circular LLEs

Book 16 covers planar, circular LED light engines (LLEs) with an integrated driver. Such LLEs could be used in flat, circular luminaires with a homogeneous, low-glare surface. A range of diameters – 500 mm, 350 mm, 250 mm, 180 mm, 130 mm – will be included, and 2 other sizes are also in discussion. More on Book 16
